The best practice is to wash the towels after each use, says Kelly Reynolds, PhD, a professor at the Zuckerman School of Public Health at the University of Arizona in Tucson, but you can stretch them up to two or three uses at most as long as you dry them completely in between. The Cleaning Institute recommends washing bath towels after three uses. If you shower every day, that means washing your clothes almost twice a week. Normal clothing is enough to clean the towels and get rid of germs that start to accumulate. Regular laundry is enough to kill germs and freshen towels.
To keep the towels as clean as possible, always hang them up and let them dry completely between each use.
